The Medal Design Competition

October 2nd 2023

The Organising Committee would like to offer members of Creative Orkney the opportunity to design the medals for the Games.

Although the Island Games are known as the friendly games, the medals are hugely important to those participants who win one and will be a lifelong reminder of their achievement.

As well as the honour of seeing their design used for all of the medals during the Games, the overall winner will also receive their own commemorative set of medals and will be given the opportunity to present the winners’ medals at one of the events during the week.

The deadline for entries is Friday 1st December 2023 with the winner being announced at an exclusive event hosted by at the Sheila Fleet Kirk on Tuesday 12th December 2023.

The Guidelines for Entry:

  • Entrants must be a member of Creative Orkney; you can join here: Membership | Orkney.com
  • Please provide designs for the front and back of the medal. The medal must be able to hang on a ribbon around the neck.
  • The height of the medal should not exceed 75mm and the width should not exceed 75mm.
  • The medal ribbon will also need to be designed and is 1000mm long and should not exceed 40mm in width. Entrants are encouraged to also include any working drawings.
  • This one design will be made into gold, silver and bronze medals.
  • All entries must include the wording “Orkney 2025 International Island Games XX” and the logo of the International Island Games Association (shown below).
  • The medal design competition is open to Creative Orkney members only.
  • The shortlisted designs will need to be approved by the International Island Games Association (IIGA) Committee. They will have final approval on the overall winner.
  • Orkney 2025 International Island Games is very lucky to have Sheila Fleet Jewellery sponsoring the medal production for the winning design.
  • Orkney 2025 will consult with technical advisors regarding the production of the shortlisted designs and will notify the finalists of any necessary changes that may need to be made to their design due to manufacturing constraints.
  • All entries will be judged anonymously by a panel of judges. Entrants are permitted to submit up to three design entries. The reverse of the medal will feature the Sheila Fleet Logo (shown below).
