As we prepare to host the Orkney 2025 Games, we want to make sure everyone is aware of important road closures that will take place during key events. These closures are necessary to ensure the safety of athletes and spectators.
Orkney 2025 hosted a series of information evenings to explain more about the Games and any associated road closures in the affected communities.
We know Orkney is a busy place and there will still be lots of ‘business as usual’ in Games week so we want to share the detail now to allow you to plan accordingly.

Event: Opening Ceremony & Athletes’ Parade
Affected areas: Central Kirkwall (Bignold Park to Broad Street and Harbour Front)
Timings: Late afternoon/early evening

Affected areas: Dounby start/finish and across west mainland including Dounby, Twatt, Swannay Brewery, Quoyloo, Scarwell.

Orkney 2025 would like to champion Active Travel as much as possible during Games-time and the following maps show the routes that are being promoted during games time for active travel. In addition, there will be many additional bus services to connect to events around Orkney, and details will be available soon. This will include a Park & Ride facility at the Orkney Auction Mart for travel into Kirkwall venues.
