  • Can I bring a dog to the event?Caret-down

    Wil the exception of assistance dogs, no animals are permitted at the events.

  • Can I bring a bag to the events?Caret-down

    We are discouraging people from bring bags to the event. However, small bags less than A3 in size are permitted.

  • Are the venues accessibility friendly?Caret-down

    We are doing our best to make all venues as accessible as possible, but please remember our venues are existing building or sports facilities that are being adapted for the Games, rather than bespoke venues that we have built from scratch. Our website will have accessibility information for each venue so you can choose if it is suitable.

Games Expo

  • What is the Games Expo?Caret-down

    We will be using our large closing ceremony party marquee throughout the week to host an exhibition of local organisations: charities, crafters and businesses.

Accommodation

  • Where are the athletes all staying?Caret-down

    We will be using normal accommodation: hotels, hostels, self-catering and B&Bs.

    We’re also supplementing this with special Games-time accommodation which involves turning 4 schools into dormitories (KGS, Stromness Academy, Papdale Primary School & Stromness primary School) for 850 people, adding inflatable beds to Papdale Halls of Residence to almost double their capacity, and bringing in containerised accommodation to the car park in UHI Orkney for 200 more guests.

  • How is the event funded?Caret-down

    Orkney Islands Council (OIC) is the main funder of Orkney 2025. Funding has also been provided by Sport Scotland and Scottish Government.

Arrivals

  • When will teams be arriving?Caret-down

    The majority of teams arrive on Fri 11 July, but some will arrive sooner and some will get here on Sat 12 July.

  • How will teams be arriving?Caret-down

    Teams are arriving on both scheduled and chartered flights; additional scheduled flights have also been laid on to allow competitors to arrive on Fri 11 Jul.

    Pentland Ferries and Northlink Ferries will also be bringing up a large number of our competitors and extra ferries have been laid on to cope with the increased demand.
