Thank you so much for signing up! We're delighted to have had such an overwhelming response to our call for volunteers.

There will be a variety of long and short-term volunteering opportunities. For those volunteering during the Games themselves, we require a minimum commitment of 3 shifts (morning, afternoon or evening). We will teach you how to tell us your availability in Better Impact (our volunteer database) during the training sessions.
There will be a range of training sessions depending on the role for which you are chosen. There are two remaining sessions for everyone and there will be role-specific training as well.
Yes, please. Our training will be specific to this event and we want to make sure all volunteers have received the same information.
All training sessions are now complete
We understand it might not be possible for you to attend all the sessions. We have sent all volunteers the videos of the first two training sessions and the slides from the third.
Every volunteer will have a named supervisor and each section has a Section Head. Both of these people will be able to provide support.
Yes, all volunteers who commit to undertaking at least 3 shifts will receive a t-shirt which they may keep. A waterproof jacket will be provided for those with outdoor roles.
Uniforms will be given to all volunteers agreeing to do 3 or more shifts and will be distributed from the Boys' Brigade Hall on Thoms Street in Kirkwall on the following days:
Fri 27 Jun
Sat 28 Jun
Sun 29 Jun
If you cannot attend those collection dates, please contact info@orkney2025.com
All shifts will be run using the My Impact app. You will be shown how to use it at the Training Session on Sunday 30 March, then you can sign up for the available shifts.
This will depend on your role and which shifts you choose. They are likely to be between 4 and 8 hours.
We ask you to inform your supervisor as soon as possible if you can't attend your shift.
No thank you.
You will be registered on a different system for Competitors and Officials.
Hopefully a fantastic experience as part of Orkney’s largest-ever event! And if you agree to volunteer for at least 3 shifts, we will give you a uniform. If you volunteer for certain shifts over meal times, you may be eligible for a free meal. More details will be provided closer to Games-time.
No, all our volunteers roles are unpaid.
Accommodation will not be provided or reimbursed. Nearer the time we will provide information about Volunteers' transport entitlement.
All venues will aim to provide parking for people with disabilities, including those who are volunteering.
We will do our best to find a role where we can also include your support.
We will do our best to accommodate your needs. We want everyone in the community to be a part of the Games.
No, but we'll do our best to give you your preferred role.
We will need most of our volunteers during Games time around 10-20 July 2025, but longer-term help is also required.
No! You can help as much or as little as you'd like.
If you volunteer for at least three shifts you'll receive a uniform.
You can volunteer while claiming benefits, as long as you keep to the conditions of the benefits you receive. Please check the rules about volunteering for the benefit you claim to make sure your benefits aren't affected.
The International Island Games is a fantastic opportunity for spectators, competitors, and host-islanders alike, but like all the Island Games before ours, and indeed the Commonwealth and Olympic Games, hundreds of people make these large and complex events happen.
